Swanston Street, New Town
Capturing the timeless flair of a bygone era in keeping with their heritage surrounds, the unique custom design of the Ingestre Cottages in New Town, Tasmania, pays homage to the site of the original Ingestre Cottage whilst highlighting modern craftsmanship of today. The use of framed-in gables, timber finials atop the gables & gablets and the blue glass glazing embedded into the main entrance door of each Ingestre Cottage can be seen in older styles of homes around the area. Sandstone from the original cottage footings has been incorporated into the exterior design features. This custom build included construction techniques not often still seen like the use of high-pitched timber rafters that were placed on site.
The interior blends the old into the new with the open living space using sleek lines and a neutral colour palette. The kitchen features stone benchtops and modern appliances. Upstairs, the main bedroom retreat integrates traditional style raked ceilings with a modern walk-in robe and adjoining ensuite. Privacy is enhanced in the downstairs bedrooms with the inclusion of internal sound insulations within the internal walls. Double glazed glass windows allow light to flow naturally whilst contributing to the villas 6-star energy rating.
The thought embedded throughout the construction phase to maintain a link to the past is evident in the completed product of this pair of truly unique classic villas.

Additionally, incorporating low allergen paint and natural timber products creates a healthy living space for clients by reducing exposure to harmful chemicals and promoting better indoor air quality. The use of permeable driveway and water tank promotes sustainability and environmental consciousness by reducing the burden on local stormwater systems and decreasing dependence on municipal water supplies.
The home's impressive 7.1-star rating further demonstrates its prioritization of energy efficiency and sustainability. The concrete slab with insulation, followed by a timber floor, creates a thermally efficient foundation, while the wine bottle water-filled thermal mass wall promotes energy efficiency and reduces the home's environmental impact.
Overall, this home design provides a sustainable and healthy living space for clients, while also minimizing the need for ongoing maintenance and repairs.
